Assignment for Section 2: Key stages

Project schedule

The table below shows the various tasks required to renovate a kitchen. Your job is to write up a project schedule for this renovation.

You'll see that each trade is listed separately, with a breakdown of the number of hours needed to complete each stage of their work. Some of these stages - such as the plasterer's sheeting, setting and sanding - can be done on consecutive days. But most of the stages done by the other trades will need to be re-ordered so that they work in with each other in the correct sequence.

Let's say that the starting time for each day is 7 am, and that no work can be carried out after 5 pm. We'll also say that no work is to be carried out on a Sunday.

Note that some of the tradespeople will be able to work on the job at the same time, because they won't be interfering in each others' work. But in other cases - such as the plasterer and painter - you will only be able to have one trade working at a time.

How quickly can you get this project completed? Develop a project schedule, showing the starting and finishing times for each trade and day. Use the Word document below to complete the schedule. Day 1 of Week 1 is done for you.
